Hi, I’m Rachel

I’m an Occupational Therapist, an avid learner of all things nutrition and wellness, and I am passionate about helping people like you implement basic lifestyle changes to prevent and even reverse disease processes. But I wasn’t always like this…

At the end of 2014, I reached my “so done” point. You know the one? When you are just so done with feeling miserable, with the aches and pains, and more importantly so done with putting my temporary cravings and indulgences above my long term health and wellness.

I can’t say the road right after that was a smooth one… because that would absolutely be a lie! But the broken and bumpy road of the last few years that has included about 3.62 million baby steps in the right direction and lead to a huge transformation in my own life.

A Snapshot of My Transformation

(because who doesn’t love a good Before and After photo?!)

The first picture is me holding my first born when he was 6 months old. I was in the worst shape of my life.

I was struggling with my weight, which I can’t entirely blame on my mild addiction to peanut butter and ice cream….

But what you can’t see behind that smile is my struggle with chronic pain, low energy and some serious concerns that something needed to change if I was going to be around to watch my little munchkin grow up.

The second picture of me with the hubby was taken just a few years later.

During that time I had a second baby, we moved across the country, and just had a lot of crazy life stuff going on.

And yet my health thrived… why?

Because I finally gave up dieting!

The Problem With Dieting

If you are over the age of about 15, you have probably tried at least one diet. Perhaps it was something specific like Weight Watchers or maybe it was just self-imposed rules (eating at least 1 salad a day, no food from a box, etc)

And as soon as you fell off the wagon, you were off the diet… no grace, no resiliency to get up and keep on going. On most of these plans there’s also no way to start small…

It’s “all or nothing”, which for me turned out to be a whole lotta’ nothin’….

At the end of the day, no matter how hard I tried to shove those external rules into my daily life it just didn’t work. Perhaps you too have found yourself at the end of a diet completely overwhelmed, exhausted and just – plain – hungry!

I get it. I’ve been there too.

And I know that the secret to you finally getting the weight off for good is probably not going to be found by a rigid set of rules.

Why? Because your life doesn’t work like that!

So, What’s the Answer?

Instead of pushing your life to fit within a set of rules, toss the rules out.

Find healthy ways to tweak your own life one little bit at a time. Embrace a fairly reliable set of guidelines that you can use to navigate your health choices even when you are out of time, low on cash and too tired to cook.

The difference between rules and guidelines are really the flexibility of it all. Rules break… guidelines give and take a little. They bend to meet you where you are in life.

If you fall of the wagon every time life is just a little bit shaky, either the plan is unsustainable or you just haven’t decided it’s sustainable for you. (I don’t mean that as a judgement… we all have to be ready to embrace change before it has a chance of really sticking!)

What makes healthy lifestyle changes “stick”

  • Good, reliable health information fuels in-the-moment decisions – if you know why and you are prepared with an alternative you enjoy (not just enduring), you can start to see progress in the day-to-day challenges
  • Connecting what we eat to how we feel starts to help us make individualized adjustments and supports our ability to resist temptation
  • Seeing results. Let’s be honest, if something is working… especially if you are enjoying the process… you don’t want to mess up a good thing!

This is exactly the process I have used in my own health transformation and the outline I use to help you finally get traction in your own health journey. It’s the reason I started this blog and why I continue to put out content to encourage and empower you to take control of your little day-to-day health decisions. So that I can spark transformation in your life as well!
